Ok – here we go…a little bit about Vmware ESX monitoring

October 28, 2008

You might not know this but op5 Monitor, is based on Nagios as the underlying engine. So the good news with our ESX plugin is GPL licensed and as such you can directly use it if you are a Nagios user. If you want to down load it, check out our projects.

Details about the plugin: http://www.op5.com/support/list-of-plugins?plugin=operating_systems:check_esx3

Why a separate plugin for ESX?
Monitoring the individual virtual servers are great – however the actual ESX server do have limitations as it is a hardware like everything else. So having active monitoring on the actual ESX hardware (operating system) performance can give you very good and early warnings when the overall load of a Vmware server becomes a bottleneck.
